Sometimes my day is crammed full of people and talk and yet I have the feeling of living in utter peace and quiet. And the tree outside my window, in the evenings, is a greater experience than all those people put together.

Five Things You Should Know About Delivery Drivers

1. Gratuity is 10-15% of the subtotal (before tax). Tip, unfortunately, is considered optional.

2. Imagine carrying 5 boxes and three bags of food, worth about $200, up a flight of stairs to an office where the receptionist only follows you along as you haul through narrow hallways to the meeting room. She only gives you $3 tip. How would you feel if that’s all you were given? Treat your drivers well.

3. We’re late or sometimes way too early. You’re not the only order we need to haul in and drive with. Remember that next time you order and give us the benefit of the doubt.

4. We have car insurance, bills, a gas tank to fill just like you do. So we work with food instead of sit at a cubicle all day. We are not “beneath” you.

5. Remember your driver’s name. Always ask. Especially when we see you a lot. It makes us feel important and we like to know you care about us caring for you.
